Gladly Global began out of pure love for the language community
Hey bestie, I'm Rae (polyglot.rae), the Founder of Gladly Global!
Long before [GG] was a thing, I discovered that language was much more than memorising vocabulary. It was a mind boggling entry point into whole new worlds, perspectives, ways of existing and perceiving. I started with learning Japanese, then moved on to Korean, Spanish and Chinese, enjoying language for the sake of it.
Along the way people started to ask me how I did it. Thus the Gladly Global YouTube channel (though called something else at the time), was born.

But the more I shared online, the more I noticed something off about the language-learning space: everyone was arguing and postulating about the right way to learn. The camps were far too rigid, and the whole thing felt more like a productivity and beurocracy competition than a community.
People were anxious, performative, and self depricating: it was an echo-chamber for using academia to justify self criticism.
↘️ So instead of building a platform that pointed everyone toward one method, she wanted to build something bigger: a space that held many truths at once.
Language acquisition is deeply personal— shaped by your rhythm, your culture, your joy, your curiosity. What works is consistent exposure, real use, and the courage to show up before you feel ready. Not perfection. Presence.
Since the humble beginning of Gladly Global with my t3i and refurbished fixed lenses, the team has expanded bringing in likeminds that have other examples crucial examples of how they have got it to work for their brain, and the various goals they have.

I would have never stuck with this passion project if not for the amazing people building alongside me. A lot of communities come and go, but GG has been strong for 10 years for a reason. We really love this and built it for us. We need this as much as our members do.

An unlikely catalyst...
When the world locked down in 2020, everyone was looking for spaces to connect and skills to collect.
The Gladly Global Discord server launched in the thick of the pandemic, when people were craving connection and no one knew what to do with all that time. We created a space to play games together, study together, ask questions, share obsessions. It became something none of us expected: a place where people made lifelong friends over shared love of language.
From there, we grew. We launched Polyglot Besties, a weekly accountability group where members share what they're struggling with, what they're learning, what they're into. We published ebooks exploring the pedagogy of language learning from multiple angles. We built study rooms, produced content, and hosted conversations that went beyond tips and methods into culture, identity, and what it actually means to communicate across difference.
Here's what we believe
Language learning isn't a means to an end. It's not a hustle. It's not a performance. It's not grades or standards, a certain accent.
It's one of the most generous things you can offer yourself: the ability to understand more of this world, to see through another set of eyes, to love across distance and difference.
We stand for healthy, consistent progress Gladly Global and we actively resist toxic productivity culture. We are not here to make you feel behind. We're here to make you feel at home, wherever you are in the journey.
Gladly Global is for people who love languages as a hobby, as a lifestyle, as a way of connecting. For people who want to explore the world with more depth, more empathy, more joy.
We're still on that mission. Online and in person. Always growing, always glad.
